When you make the gift of a scholarship to California State University, Dominguez Hills, you have tremendous flexibility in determining how the funds will be used and when and how they will be delivered and dispersed.
As higher education becomes increasingly more expensive, California State University, Dominguez Hills cherishes the generous gifts from alumni and friends that lead to endowed and annual scholarships for our current and prospective students. Without the generosity of caring individuals a great many of our students would find it difficult to complete their studies.
There are many reasons why CSUDH alumni and friends choose to give scholarships, including:
Endowed scholarships provide invaluable educational access to students that otherwise may not be able to afford this academic opportunity and privilege. Strong and well-established scholarship programs attract the best and brightest students to the university, and works to build our reputation both nationally and internationally.
Endowed funds differ from others in that they are truly the gift that keeps giving. Instead of the entire amount of the gift being spent outright, the total amount of the gift is invested. Each year, only a portion of the invested income earned is spent while the remainder is added to the original principal. An endowment is a perpetual gift because only the interest is used to support the university while the principle continues to grow. Always equated with excellence and long-term strength, endowments are absolutely essential if we are to remain a leader in education in the South Bay and metropolitan Los Angeles region.
The creation of new endowed scholarships enables us to provide scholarship funds to students with financial need and those who show great academic potential without tapping into operating funds or relying on tuition increases. Creating an endowment scholarship truly changes students’ lives. A quality education influences an entire person—not just their academic experience.
Making this incomparable gift of education more widely accessible to an ever-growing pool of talented scholars will benefit us all for generations to come.
Donors may establish a named scholarship that does not require an endowment.
As with endowed scholarships, all benefactors have the ability to name their scholarships after themselves or in memory or honor of another. Scholarship donors are provided with the name of their recipient and are given the opportunity to meet the student at a special campus event.
Named annual scholarships are designed to encourage scholarship support at annual levels. Donors wishing to establish a named annual scholarship must pledge annual gifts of $1,000 or more for at least a three-year period. During that time, the funds will go directly to aiding a student with demonstrated financial need.
